MARILYN MANSON Leaves Record Execs In The Dark
May 26, 2003While recording his new album, "The Golden Age of Grotesque", MARILYN MANSON did everything he could to keep record execs from hearing a sneak preview. "I was very vague and evasive with the record company," the ghoulish rocker tells the upcoming issue of Details. "I would give them recordings of me talking to my cat. I would say, 'This is the single,' and they'd laugh, 'Yeah, ha ha, that's funny. But really, where is it?' "
"The Golden Age of Grotesque" shifted 118,174 copies in the U.S. during its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan, to debut at No. 1 on this week's The Billboard 200 chart. The CD has also secured No. 1 chart positions in Germany, Italy, Austria and Switzerland.
